Construction of the Tesla Superfactory, the largest foreign-owned manufacturing project in Shanghai to date and Tesla's first superfactory outside the U.S., began in January 2019. In March 2020, to localize the supply chain, Tesla invested in a $2 billion component plant in China in preparation for expanding the plant's capacity . April 8, 2020, in order to strengthen the control of product quality, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. intends to invest 12 million yuan to add three new ray devices , which will be used for flaw detection and inspection of automotive parts.
